Lahaina Harbor Reopens for Ocean Activities as Recovery Continues
More than two years after the fires that reshaped West Maui, Lahaina Harbor has quietly reopened for ocean activities, and the return of charter fishing boats, snorkel cats, and small watercraft to the harbor marks one of the most significant milestones in the town's long recovery. Operators resuming activity include Sail Maui, Atlantis Submarines, Sea Link of Hawaiʻi, and Kula Fishing Company — familiar names whose return signals that the ocean side of Lahaina's economy is coming back on its own terms.
The return is measured and respectful. Visitors coming to West Maui for 2026 are being asked to support local businesses without treating the rebuild as spectacle — Lahaina Cannery Mall has become a quiet gathering place for dining and live music, with returning favorites Mala Ocean Tavern and Honu Oceanside anchoring the area. The Maui Marathon also returns April 26, running routes through portions of West Maui that showcase the coastline the marathon was built around.
If you're visiting: book activities directly with Lahaina-based operators. Spend money in town, tip generously, and read the community posts at Maui Recovers before you go.
